Who is our school named after?

George W. Edgerton was a founding father of Puyallup.

He served as a civic and business leader in the community.

His lists of contributions are lengthy, including founder and director of Citizen's State Bank (which is currently home to the district's central offices) for 45 years, a founder and director of the Western Washington Fair, and a member of the Puyallup School Board for 24 years.

The city of Puyallup and the Puyallup School District are what they are in large part to the contributions and service of George W. Edgerton.

He was one of the people to sign a petition to incorporate Puyallup in 1890, and was the last survivor of that group. He was in the same company as Ezra Meeker and J.P. Stewart, both well renowned historical figures of Puyallup.

"He represents a lot of the things we value in this community." said School Board member Bruce Dammeir.

Fortunately for us, Mr. Edgerton has many living relatives in the area, and we have plans to spend more time with them learning about this wonderful individual. We are lucky to be named for a person who was committed to serving his community and making a difference!
